Meet your Captain

Captain Dustin Walker is a US Coast Guard licensed Merchant Mariner-Master (Captain) and veteran of the US Marine Corps.

Captain Dustin brings 35+ years of on-the-water experience to you in order to give you the best experience possible.

BEFORE YOU BOOK A charter boat

Ask the Captain!

The Coast Guard advises you to ask the captain for:

  • A Coast Guard-issued Merchant Mariner's Credential. If you're required to provide any money, fuel, or supplies before or after the operator allows you to get underway on the vessel, the vessel is operating as a charter and must be operated by an individual who has a valid Coast Guard-issued Merchant Mariner's Credential. The operator must have this credential on board.
  • A Certificate of Inspection. If the boat carries more than six passengers, including at least one for hire, it must meet all Coast Guard safety requirements for an inspected passenger vessel. You should ask to see a valid Certificate of Inspection. Vessels carrying six or fewer passengers may participate in a voluntary but highly recommended Uninspected Passenger Vessel (UPV) safety exam and display a UPV decal.
  • Proof of enrollment in a drug and alcohol testing program. Charter employees are subject to drug and alcohol testing. It's a requirement for commercial vessel operations, including small charter outfits with just one or two employees. Proof of testing can take the form of a letter (from a third-party administrator) or a wallet-size enrollment card with the person's name and date of expiration.

This is true!  You CAN NOT bring bananas on our boat.

This is maritime folklore.   Bananas onboard a vessel a commonly considered bad luck.  There is  no clear evidence of when this lore came to be and  no clear reason exists as to how this superstition came to be. Common explanations include:

  • When top-heavy ships of earlier eras would sink, precious little other than the bananas they’d carried would be found floating on the surface, thereby leaving some to conclude conveyance of the fruit itself had led to these naval mishaps.
  • Spiders, snakes, and other poisonous vermin living among bananas carried in the hold would, on long haul trips, expand their horizons by infesting other parts of the ship.
  • Because the speediest sailing ships were used to get bananas to their destinations before they could spoil, those attempting to fish from them never caught anything while trolling.

FUN FACT:

The underwear company, Fruit of the Loom, does not have a banana character in their line up because they were afraid the Merchant Marines and US Navy sailors would not purchase the brand if it were adorned with a banana.
